Editor and writer
I've been a journalist ever since university, on many different topics, and am a member of the Canadian Association of Journalists. I started writing about jazz in 2008.
I discovered jazz in the 1980s, in search for music that was both more complex and more fun than what I'd been listening before.
Since then, I've attended festivals in Montreal, Toronto, Guelph, and Ottawa, as well as many concerts all over. In my non-journalistic capacity, I volunteer for the Ottawa jazz festival (since 1989!) selling T-shirts and other souvenirs.
I like all types of instrumental jazz, from free jazz to standards to bebop, as well as many vocalists.
Occasionally I get worried that I too uncritically like the music, but then I hear an absolute clunker of a performance and am reassured of the high standard of almost all the musicians I hear – and especially our local Ottawa-Gatineau musicians!
