Sunday, June 5, 2016 - Two Tenors Project: Chris Maskell and Vince Rimbach at the Record Centre
Saxophonist Chris Maskell grew up and learned his love of jazz here in Ottawa. He's just graduated from the jazz performance program at McGill University, but has been back here every summer, putting on shows with friends from both Montreal and Ottawa. For this show, he's teamed up with another tenor player, Vince Rimbach, who's originally from New Jersey, but who has been part of the Ottawa jazz scene for many years. They'll be playing three other musicians regularly heard on the scene: Peter Hum on piano, Alex Bilodeau on double bass, and Michel Delage on drums.
Expect to hear original music by Maskell, Rimbach and Hum, plus a piece by jazz great Gerry Mulligan. Maskell and Hum have each written a new tune that will be performed for the first time at this show.
The group will be playing mid-afternoon, from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Space is limited at The Record Centre, so early arrival is recommended. There's no admission charge, but donations to the musicians are very much appreciated. Come early to check out the extensive recorded music on vinyl!
