The MVP Quartet has been playing Wednesday nights this month at Café Nostalgica, with not only chord changes, but also `M`, 'V' and 'P' changes, depending on the week. Listeners have enjoyed variations on the tunes from Peter Hum's first CD, 'A Boy's Journey'. On February 16, Shannon Smith and Megan Jerome pumped up their vocal chords to deliver 'Do nothing till you hear from me', 'Willow Weep for Me' and 'Bye Bye Blackbird' in a spirited manner without aid of vocal mics. And Petr Cancura, the Ottawa Jazz Festival's new programming director who was in Ottawa for festival biz last week, sat in with some extended solos on his soprano sax that further energized the audience.
Tonight is the final evening of the MVP Quartet for this month's booking. If you want to know how it really happens, you`ll just have to be there.
