Jazzfest 2011: Angele Desbois Jazz Ensemble Rendez-Vous with their audience

Angele Desbois (vocals) and Peter MacGibbon (bass) ©Brett Delmage, 2011The Angele Desbois Jazz Ensemble made their debut performance at the Rendez-Vous Rideau [Centre] Stage at noon on Thursday, to open the 31st TD Ottawa Jazz Festival.  Angele's music of originals and standards was selected specifically for that audience, and delivered by her with with joy and enthusiasm. She was joined by ensemble members Greg Stone (guitar) Charlie Robertson (wind synthesizer), Peter MacGibbon (bass) and Alex Lopez on drums.  The one-hour set included some songs from her new CD, Singularity

A very large number of quiet listeners stayed for the whole show, in addition to those who stopped to listen as they passed through the Rideau Centre mall. This show was the first performance of the bookings that new festival Programming Manager Petr Cancura had made for the 2011 Ottawa Jazz Festival; he too stopped by for a good listen and to check things out.

Desbois will officially release her new CD on July 17 at Kaffe 1870 in Wakefield.
