Leaping from Bach to contemporary Latin Tango, and traditional jazz numbers, Cosmos delivers a unique sound.
The Cosmos Saxophone Quartet was formed in 2004. Mike Tremblay, Vince Rimbach, Rene Lavoie and Ian Babb have known each other for the past 15 years. The idea to form a saxophone quartet came about while playing together as the original saxophone section in the Holly Larocque Big Band,
The first performance for the group was at the Cosmos Park in Gatineau (Hull), Quebec so it seemed only fitting to go with Cosmos for the official name.
The group’s repertoire includes a mix of jazz and classical arrangements and compositions by J.S Bach, Dave Brubeck, Charlie Parker, Samuel Barber, Phil Woods, Gordon Goodwin, Vince Rimbach, Ian Babb and Bob Mintzer.
Appearances for the quartet have included the Ottawa International Jazz Festival, The Clarica Centre Lunch Time Series, The Ottawa Saxophone Camp Concert Series, Les Mardis Classiques summer music series in Gatineau and more recently at the St-James Church - Concerts in the Glebe series.
