The Craig Pedersen Quartet is excited to announce the release of their debut full length album, Days Like Today, the follow-up to their much-acclaimed Early Winter EP.
Inspired by the music of John Zorn, the AACM, Ornette Coleman, and Duke Ellington, the new album contains ten tracks of original music that walk the distance between approachable and challenging. Free-wheeling, energetic, and just-a-little crazy, the music keeps you listening, thinking and on your toes.
In support of the new record, the quartet has recently run a very successful online fundraising campaign. The much-anticipated new album raised over $1000 in pre-sales and donations.
Formed in 2010, the Craig Pedersen Quartet features four of the hardest working creative musicians in Ottawa and Montreal. All working musicians, and individually fluent in a variety of styles, they come together under Craig Pedersen’s leadership to make music that walks the distance between approachable and challenging music.
2011 has been a busy year for the band, beginning with the recording and release of the EP Early Winter, which was featured in its entirety on both CITR Vancouver’s The Rib Podcast and CISM Montreal’s 12” Dans le Jazz Podcast, along with having the title track included nationally on CBC Radio 2’s The Signal podcast with Laurie Brown in February.
Most recently, the Quartet was chosen by the Ottawa Jazz Festival to open for Jerry Granelli in October. They also performed this summer at the 2011 Ottawa Jazz Festival, and have also played in Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City.
