Acclaimed Canadian sisters and musicians Ingrid and Christine Jensen have assembled an all-star quartet to perform an evening of high-energy original jazz composition.
Ingrid Jensen:
New York based trumpet player and band-leader Ingrid Jensen is labelled as one of the most in demand players on the scene today for a reason. Selected by Down Beat as one of the “25 most important improvising musicians of the future” and rated in the top two in numerous critic’s polls for “talent deserving wider recognition” and most recently gracing the top Trumpet category, Ingrid has garnered an impressive reputation as a trumpet-player, composer, bandleader and educator. She divides her time throughout the year, touring and recording with her own groups, performing with numerous other large and small ensembles, and appearing as a special guest artist at prestigious colleges and universities around the globe.
Ingrid has built a strong reputation for herself and receives rave reviews in the music circle with her own projects, and as a regular voice in the Grammy-award-winning Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, the Grammy nominated Darcy James Argue Secret Society big band, and Terri-Lyne Carrington’s recent Mosaic Project.
Her three CDs’ for the ENJA label, won her numerous nominations from the Canadian Juno Awards and a win in 1995 for her first of the three, Vernal Fields. Her current releases on the web-based ArtistShare label, At Sea (IJQ) and Spirals (Nordic Connect), continue to garner positive press and excited responses from both her peers and the media around the world.
Christine Jensen:
Montreal-based saxophonist and composer Christine Jensen is equally at home performing in small and large ensemble settings. Her latest recording, Treelines - The Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra featuring Ingrid Jensen on Justin-Time Records, won the 2011 Juno Award for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year, along with Quebec’s Opus Award for jazz recording of the year. She travels the globe as an in-demand composer, performer, and clinician.
Musical exploits include the quintet Nordic Connect that she co-leads with her sister Ingrid, and the Canadian Lifelines Ensemble with David Restivo, Sienna Dahlen and Jim Vivian. Recent highlights with her Canadian quartet include Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Jazz Club, along with jazz festival appearances in Peru, Haiti and India. In 2002, Jensen was awarded a six-month composition residency in Paris at the Québec Studio in the Cité Internationale des Arts. She has produced three small ensemble recordings to critical acclaim on Effendi Records, along with an extensive amount of radio broadcasts for CBC over the past fifteen years. She has collaborated with a diverse array of jazz artists including Geoffrey Keezer, Lenny, Pickett, Dick Oatts, Steve Wilson, Seamus Blake, Brad Turner, Gary Versace, and Donny McCaslin, in addition to her long-term musical relationships with sister, Ingrid and partner, saxophonist-composer Joel Miller.
