Just four generous sponsors of a Septet of days could take us to the finish line too.

You keep yourself informed and entertained with our articles, video documentaries, photos, reviews, and event listings by donating. Jazz jam with the HML Trio at Brookstreet Hotel Options Jazz Lounge

Thursday, March 7, 2013 - 7 to 11 p.m.
No cover. No reservations required.
Age of majority (19+) required after 9 p.m.

  • Alex Moxon - guitar
  • J.P. Lapensée – bass
  • Jamie Holmes - drums

Brookstreet Hotel holds a weekly jazz jam hosted by the HML trio.

"The jam will serve as a means for local musicians to socialize, network and develop their craft playing in Ottawa's most elegant Options Jazz Lounge and to raise awareness of this beautiful venue.  Options Jazz Lounge is the perfect venue for a new jazz jam night since there is a gorgeous stage, a house piano and a great house band to keep the music rolling all night.  The jam will run as most jazz jams do where the first set will feature the house band exclusively with each remaining set being open for local musicians who would like to sit in and join the band for a tune or two.

The protocol for getting up to play is pretty relaxed and easy; either get in touch with the co-ordinator Jamie Holmes about sitting in or speak with one of the other members of the trio and they will do their best to accommodate as long as the music is appropriate for the night.  All instrumentalists are welcome: just remember to bring your instrument if you feel like sitting in and to bring charts/lead sheets for any tunes that may not be common jazz standards so the band can follow.

The idea is to bring back the emphasis on live music and interaction among local musicians, especially musicians who may not get a chance to play with a professional trio in such a beautiful setting.  With the decreasing amount of live music venues in Ottawa, it is very important to raise interest in this and the importance that it has on the local music scene.  The band will start relatively early on jam nights to help draw out more people who may have to work early the next morning and to entertain anyone staying at the Hotel with a taste of an authentic jazz jam night.  Everyone is welcome from local musicians, students, jazz enthusiasts or for anyone simply interested in watching local music being performed in Ottawa's most elegant live music venue."
