CANCELLED: Richard Page Trio Tuesdays at the Avant-Garde Bar

Richard says "Phil, Matt and I have decided to take a break from the Avant Garde." The Trio Tuesdays have ended for the time being.

Each Tuesday - 9 p.m. to midnight
Pay what you can: suggested $5

  • Richard Page - tenor and soprano sax, bass clarinet
  • Philippe Charbonneau - bass
  • Matt Aston - drums

The trio performs (sometimes with guests) originals of Richard's and arrangements of some obscure standards. They are preparing to record in a few weeks.

Although Richard only moved to Ottawa a few years ago, he is now well-known on the local scene. He has previously played with many well-known Canadian jazz artists such as David Braid, Ranee Lee, Rick Wilkins, Ted Warren, Dave McMurdo, Bob Brookmeyer, Nick Marchione, and Darcy Hepner (formerly of Blood, Sweat, and Tears).  He has also studied with Jan Garbarek, Kirk MacDonald, Mike Murley, and Quinsin Nachoff. After moving to Ottawa, Richard was selected to play in the National Jazz Youth Summit Big Band under the direction of Jim Lewis.  This group of twenty of the best young jazz musicians from across Canada appeared on the main stage at the 2008 Ottawa International Jazz Festival.

Richard currently spends his time composing for and performing with various groups around Ottawa. Last November, he showcased his compositions for jazz trio and a 16-piece string ensemble in his A Large View from a Small Window  evening of original "chamber jazz".
