Expect new combinations of musicians at the 2019 Ottawa Winter Jazz Festival.
The festival, to be held February 7 to 9, will include a new program involving “workshopping and combining players together, as part of six shows”, festival programming manager Petr Cancura told OttawaJazzScene.ca.
This program will replace the special project grant which the festival had been offering to local musicians for the previous four winter festivals to create new and innovative collaborations.
Cancura said the special project grant will return in future festivals because “I really like that concept. It's just, within the context of what we're going to do for this year, it didn't really make sense. But we'll bring it back. I love what people always come up with!”
The festival has already booked many of the acts planned for its winter festival, Cancura said, and he is finalizing the rest. He hoped “to get it actually all done in the next two weeks. … By mid-November we should know by sure.”
He said he would like to announce the line-up around November 20.
