With a heavy but precise push, Alan Whatmough's 320 kg piano joins the first one on the GigSpace stage ©Brett Delmage, 2019

Alan Whatmough is GigSpace’s longtime piano tuner and caretaker. He provided the piano for its first three years, before GigSpace donors raised enough money to buy one.

More recently he wanted to hear a two-piano concert by Ottawa pianists Mark Ferguson and Steve Boudreau, paying tribute to Bill Evans. And Whatmough just happened to have a piano very similar to the Yamaha piano that GigSpace already had.

The piano just had to get to the GigSpace stage. was there when the piano rolled up to the AMS/GigSpace front door. Join us as the 320 kg piano makes its challenging journey to the stage and gets reassembled and tuned, and for our conversations with Alan Whatmough about piano tuning and Mark Ferguson about two-piano performances.
