Building on the success of our popular summer Jazz Camp, JazzWorks is pleased to announce our second annual one-day spring workshop, the Ultimate Jazz Combo Workout, organized by JazzWorks Artistic Director, John Geggie. This intensive, hands-on workshop focuses on how to get inside a tune: playing it in different styles, keys, and tempos.
Discover how tunes are constructed from a melodic and harmonic perspective in a fun and supportive atmosphere. In the process, you’ll get plenty of playing time with various group combinations, and feedback from the instructors:
- guitarist Kevin Barrett
- piano player Steve Boudreau
- vocalist Sharada Banman and
- trumpet player Jim Lewis,
all exceptional jazz musicians and educators. This workshop is open to musicians at all levels from beginner to advanced.
All instrumentalists will be required to bring their own instruments and gear. A PA will be provided for the vocalists in each combo. Music charts for practice purposes will be provided to registrants beforehand. To help with key changing strategies, additional keys can be supplied upon request.
