The National Arts Centre has just announced the 2011 edition of its biennial festival celebrating regions of Canada. This year the focus will be on the Prairies, with 500 artists in 80 events in the National Capital area from April 26 to May 8, 2011.

Included so far are a few jazz artists:

  • The Duhks: crossover bluegrass, folk rock, Afro-Cuban jazz, and soul fusion
  • Alexis Normand: Latin groove with a folk tinge. CBC concert here.
  • Kelly Jefferson: a saxophonist who has brightened groups ranging from his own to the Shuffle Demons to Chris Tarry to Emile-Claire Barlow to Barry Romberg to William Carn to Manteca. He just recently released a new album with his quartet called Next Exit.

About half of the full programming of Prairie Scene has been announced, with more artists scheduled to be announced in February, 2011. Subscribe to OttawaJazzScene.ca to get the latest news on any further jazz artists.
