regrets to inform our readers and site visitors that the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival has denied media access and credentials for the 2011 festival to journalists. Our ongoing commitment to transparent reporting requires that we disclose this situation.

On June 1, the festival sent a letter informing publisher and journalist Brett Delmage that he and were "not entitled to a media pass". The festival's letter responded to a request for compensation for professional photographic work by Delmage which was used by the festival.

This may affect our ability to report news about the Festival to our readers and site visitors as extensively we did in 2009, 2010, and to date in 2011.

"I continue to have every faith that the Ottawa Jazz Festival will work with me for a fair, mutually beneficial, and timely resolution of this matter," said Brett Delmage.  "It is important that we continue to work together to best serve jazz and improvised music artists and listeners in Ottawa/Gatineau."

Brett Delmage joined the Ottawa Jazz Festival as a charter member in 1988 and contributed as a volunteer and donor for a period of 19 years, before founding in 2009.

Update: as of April 12, 2012, the Ottawa Jazz Festival and Brett Delmage have yet to reach agreement on a settlement. Negotiations toward satisfactory settlement of his claim are ongoing.

Update: on June 6, 2012 the Ottawa Jazz Festival rejected's formal application for media accreditation to the Ottawa Jazz Festival.

Update: an additional statement on how this affects's 2012 festival coverage was issued on June 22, 2012.

Update: On 2012 September 21 publisher and photojournalist Brett Delmage reached a final settlement with the Ottawa Jazz Festival regarding the appearance of his copyrighted photos without attribution and/or permission in festival publications and on Facebook. The settlement does not constitute an admission of any liability or obligation by the Ottawa Jazz Festival.
