Congratulations to Cheryl Boon, who won a pair of tickets  (a $50 value!) to hear Quebec vocalist Sonia Johnson on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 8 p.m. Johnson is the 2012 JUNO Award winner for Best Vocal jazz album of the year.

Les Brasseurs du Temps (BDT) generously donated the tickets. This is BDT's fourth donation of draw tickets to hear excellent jazz this fall at BDT.

Johnson's latest, Juno-Award-winning album, Le Carré de nos amours, is a perfect blend of the improvisational spontaneity of jazz and the lyricism of French chanson à texte. The fiery singer’s passion for both musical traditions is on full display in this latest effort. Watch video.

An award-winning brewery, Les Brasseurs du Temps (BDT) is just minutes away from downtown Ottawa by bicycle or car, or a short walk from the OC Transpo #8 bus stop at Les Terrasses de la Chaudière. The #8 bus trip is only a 5 minute hop from the Lebreton Transitway Station.

The answer to the skill-testing question, "What is the name of Sonia Johnson's 2005 album and what are some of the musical elements on it ?" is "Don't explain" It features a multilingual collection of jazz standards which she interprets with a scat style.
